Alaska maintains limited Corporate Practice of Medicine (CPOM) restrictions. Unlike many states, Alaska does not have an explicit statutory prohibition against the corporate employment of physicians, and any common law restrictions that previously existed have been substantially narrowed through court decisions and legislative changes. As a result, non-physicians, traditional LLCs, and corporations can generally own medical entities and directly employ licensed clinicians. However, regardless of the ownership structure, no unlicensed executive, board member, or investor may interfere with or override a physician's independent clinical judgment. All treatment decisions, medical protocols, and standards of patient care must remain under the authority of licensed healthcare providers.
